The decade

2000s

The 2000s were a decade of splits. Minimal and tech house ruled underground clubs, electro house and big-room hits like Eric Prydz’s “Call on Me” (2004) ruled the charts, and deep house kept its loyal heads.

In South Africa, a house scene that had been huge at home for years produced Black Coffee, whose “Superman” (2009) set up the Afro house wave to come.
